[edit] Short summary

In addition to just typing text, you can use formatting rules. Formatting rules are codes you can use when editing a page to change the way text is displayed.

Some examples of text formatting rules:

= Title 1 =

== Title 2 ==

=== Title 3 ===

==== Title 4 ====

''italics''

'''bold'''

<u>underline</u>

[edit] Basic text

[edit] font formatting

  • Italics: put the world between two quotation marks, e.g., ''word'' will be word.
  • Boldface: put the world between three quotation marks, e.g., '''word''' will be word.
  • Underline: <u>word</u> will be word.
  • Fixed width:

start the line with a space.

  • Text to appear as you type it, so without processing the wiki-commands: put it between <nowiki> and </nowiki>.
  • Code, if you need it, <code>goes like this</code>.

[edit] line formatting

  • Start a new paragraph with a blank lines.
  • See Headings

[edit] paragraph formatting

  • Create a line break with just one return.
  • Indent a paragraph: start with a colon, followed by a blank space (: ).
  • Definition: start with a semi-colon, followed by a blank space (; ). The defined term ends with a colon, followed by the definition, eg. "; Wikimaas: the Maastricht' Alternative guide"
  • Bulleted lists: start items with an asterix, followed by a blank space (* ).
  • Enumerations: start items with a hash, followed by a blank space (# ).
  • Use two or more colons, asterixes or hashes for more levels of items.

[edit] Links

  • Wikilinks: Either put it between two brackets, e.g., [[Some other page]]. You can use CamelCase but we'd prefer you wouldn't.
  • Wikilinks with different display: use the syntax [[Some other page|the text to display]].
  • External links: Put the link between single brackets, e.g., [http://www.peta.nl], for a numerical link. Or add text to display as a link, e.g. [http://www.peta.nl PETA Netherlands]. This will result in [1] or PETA Netherlands.

[edit] Headings

Make headings by placing equal-signs around the term. Use more signs for a lower-level heading.

For example:

= Animals =

== Cats ==

== Dogs ==

=== Jack Russel ===

=== St. Bernard ===

= Humans =

Please use one equal-sign (and not two or three) for the biggest type of headings on your page. Otherwise the table of contents on the right will get confused.

With ----, you can make a rule, like below.

[edit] HTML

Some HTML-tags are enabled. Try them if you like. When abused to run scripts, damage data or computers, or for any other kind of rude behavior, they will be turned off for the whole wiki.

[edit] Pictures

Add a picture to a page by inserting the full URL:

wikimaaslogo.png

gives:

wikimaaslogo.png

Note that pictures larger than half a wikimaas-page in width will be automatically resized to half a wikimaas page.

[edit] Redirections

You can make page AAA a redirection to page BBB by putting the text

#REDIRECT [[BBB]]

as the contents of page AAA. Visitors of page AAA will now automatically be sent to BBB.

[edit] Smilies

For the IM-generation, several smileys are available. You type them with the following codes:

 :-) = :-)
 :-( = :-(
 :-S = :-S
 ;-) = ;-)
 :-p = :-p

[edit] Tables

To make tables in this wiki, you endlessly need to push the | button. To align text in cells of the table, us need to indent it or antedent(?) it with spaces. Wikitext does still work in the table, so you could align images etc, inside. Tables come in handy when you want to align pictures and text. For colspanning, see the :-P-example (three columns spanned, aligned in the center)

a b c
A B C
:-P
result
 a   b   c
A   B C
   :-P

[edit] URL abbreviations

You can use short syntaxes for often returning URL´s like google, alert-images etc. See InterMap for the full possibilities;

Example
Go:Wikimaas
WPE:Maastricht
WPN:Wikiwiki

[edit] Templates

On pages which deal with roughlty the same subject, you can add Templates . Then you can add the same information to multiple pages.

[edit] RSS Feeds

To include an RSS feed, use the following syntax;

<include "http://wikimaas.org/wiki/rss_inc.php?RSS=http://URL_TO_RSS_FEED">
